This is just a place to host some pre-learning for students on my PSYC0223 course before they have access to moodle.
This module is delivered to a range of students with very different amounts of background experience in statistics. In order to provide an experience which is valuable to all, we have to establish a baseline of expected knowledge. Below are a list of key concepts you are expected to know before lecture 1. If you do not feel confident in any of these, then go through the Pre-learning lecture notes below, and also complete the associated worksheets. These also have links to online videos throughout to reinforce key lessons.
The topics covered in these pre-learning resources / which you are expected to understand before lecture 1 are:
Measures of central tendency (Mean; Median; Mode)
Measures of dispersion (The standard deviation)
Histograms (Frequency and Proportion)
The probability density distribution
Z-scores
The distribution of sample means
Standard error
t-scores
p-values
